Welcome to Sage Counsel. My name is Nicola and I am a fully-qualified, Waterford-based counsellor, psychotherapist and life coach. I am fully accredited with the Irish Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (IACP). I am currently working towards a Masters in Pluralistic Counselling & Psychotherapy. I am committed to staying on the cutting edge of professional developments to ensure my clients get the best therapeutic experience I can provide.
My way of working involves active collaboration between myself and my clients. I do not claim to be the expert of your life, so your input is invaluable. I bring fresh perspectives, scientifically supported techniques, flexibility, and plenty of ideas. Together, we set an agenda to meet YOUR needs and create a unique therapeutic process tailored to YOU, as an individual. I actively encourage regular feedback from my clients, particularly regarding the effectiveness of our approach and their preferences for my way of working. Honest feedback is shown to have a significant impact on positive client outcomes and helps the therapist to make crucial adjustments along the path to your better life.
Sage Counsel is born of the desire to offer a multi-disciplinary approach. Every client is entirely unique, and I believe there is no set route to the journey each will take. I work creatively and intuitively with my clients to meet their needs by combining elements from a wide range of theoretical approaches.
As a therapist, I work with my clients on a vast range of issues; past, present, and future; internal, relational, and worldly. It is quite common for clients to be unsure of what, specifically, is causing them difficulty; simply feeling ill-at-ease. In these circumstances, I work with my clients to explore their world and their engagement with their world, and to identify some possible areas of focus before working towards resolving those issues.
As a life coach, I will help you to identify the areas of your life in which you feel ‘stuck’ and the direction you dream of taking. We will work together to outline the steps necessary to make these dreams a reality. We will draft a plan of manageable, realistic and time-oriented targets. Over the weeks that follow we will track your progress; monitor what is and isn’t working for you; and adjust the plan accordingly. While your dream is the end goal, working towards a meaningful purpose is rewarding in itself. My clients have often remarked how their levels of happiness and fulfilment, along the journey, were elevated long before they reached their goals.

Having lived all over the world, and pursued a number of different career paths before discovering my true purpose, I enjoy working with people from all walks of life and of all persuasions. I provide a welcoming, inclusive, non-judgemental space where my clients feel heard, valued and accepted and where nothing is off the table!
